Stephen Jones donated me 100 bucks, thank you so much dude, every bit counts, and thats more than a bit.
also Elizabeth Delgado for donating 20, I appreciate it so very very much.
I applied for that payment plan, and of course I was denied.
I simply just cannot afford it, I can either get my tooth pulled for 150 or so, or cancel the appointment period and do it another day when I have enough money.
so heres the new poll, should I pull the tooth? or should I get the root canal?
keeping in mind, the tooth is the back one next to my wisdom tooth (which I have still, they grew in fine).
it's an important tooth, one that I use for chewing my food. also so says the dentist, if I DO get it pulled, my other teeth will shift into the gap where the tooths gone, and could POSSIBLY cause problems, not definitely, but possibly.
150-200 to pull the tooth get rid of it for good and risk further problems with teeth messing up by moving around.
OR get a root Canal for 1600, which COULD last my whole life, it could also last me just a few years. i've heard MANY cases where people have gotten root canals, and they eventually have to just get the tooth pulled anyway. my mom has a few root canal'd teeth still, she also had to get some pulled cause they weren't working out.
i'm on the ropes here, hard decision, so many what ifs, no definite answer.
big risk... what do you guys think?
I think this is one of those things that you can't rely on the blog viewers for. They may work as a second opinion, but I think you really need to do some good research and come up with a decision based mostly on that. Unless you are, in which case, I say pull the thing. I've had 6 teeth pulled and no major problems have surfaced (though then again, mine was for crowding).
ReplyDeleteouch, tough decision. I left it alone but the pain was still there for about a year or two. I'll say do the root canal and we can try as a community to raise the money for you. I'll try to post some stuff on my blog and may'be a plea of help to other places
ReplyDeleteThere are two big things: price and problems.
ReplyDeleteThe root canal is a simple if scary-ass procedure that definitely won't go wrong BUT as you mentioned may not fix things for long anyway.
So that's the huge bill with a chance of repetition in a few years when, who knows, your financial situation could be even worse.
Getting it pulled fixes the problem, but going off of friends who've lost molars, it'll be awkward as HELL for a while. Get anything cold on it, and you'll be rolling around like a baby for a few minutes.
But I disagree with people making a big deal of the complications that may come of teeth moving into the space. ANY problems related to teeth spacing/alignment/positioning are BABY BUCKS compared to a root canal.
BUT something people never expect or think about, it will mess up how you talk. Chances are that you'll be screwing up S's the rest of your life.
Friends who got it pulled never regretted it, and I don't know anyone who's had root canals go wrong. So, Austin, I say get it pulled. Least number of risks. Least expensive path in all ways. The tooth could be one that people will notice missing, but it's not. So go with how the polls currently are looking.
*Ahem* Seriousness aside, good luck no matter what you choose. May Chuck Norris be with you.

If root canal is not 100% working on your tooth, then mind as well take it off and not wasted a lot of money.
ReplyDeletei say get it pulled. if you have to spend over a grand for something that might not work then you shouldnt do it, but thats just my opinion
ReplyDeleteall i can say is if you feel like your going to regret something don't do it and yes $1600 is alot of money but not doing something out of sheer greed (in which this obviously isnt the case) is going to be bad karma
ReplyDeleteget it pulled! the recovery process is quicker than you'd think...within 3 or so days you'll be fine, and it will feel a little awkward. keep your mouth clean with antibacterial wash and it will heal. the root canal is only a bandaid option that could work for a long time, or not.
ReplyDeletepulling the tooth is guaranteed relief, just maintain hygiene after and you'll be fine
Dude just get it pulled, i have the same fucking teeth pulled and my spelling is completely fine, and 1 week later i could drink and eat on that side.
ReplyDeleteI got that same tooth pulled off 1 year ago. No problems so far.
ReplyDeleteGet it pulled off, it's weird the first weeks, but it'll rub off eventually
austin just try to get the root canal becuase i dont want you do have problems wit your mouth. How are you going to speak well in vids? :( please choose wisely and be careful
ReplyDeleteI know it's lame, but these kinds of things you just have to deal with and pay up your butt for.
ReplyDeleteI dunno. I agree with the first post, in that this really isn't something you can rely on the viewers of this blog for. Not everyone knows what's best for you, you know?
ReplyDeleteSecond opinions, though, I suppose are fine. Just remember to do what YOU want in the long run.
At any rate, I honestly would suggest the Root Canal. I know getting it pulled is easier and cheaper, but they don't just invent these expensive procedures and screw up on purpose to get your money. It's a medical procedure, and wouldn't be there if it weren't a very good option, you know? I know it's expensive, but there's a reason for that. The only thing I can think of is that it's extremely painful (for most). My stepmother had a root canal and her mouth was swollen for weeks.
WELL MEN I KNOW BUT THINK YOU ONLY HAVE 4 DECISIONS
ReplyDelete1) get the tooth pulled of- you say it was good but there may be some problems with the others tooth. MY OPINION: WELL I KNOW THIS IS BAD BUT THERE IS A 50% THAT THE OTHER TOOTH CAUSE PROBLEMS, WELL PULL OF THE OTHER TOOTH INSTEAD.AND THIS IS LESS MONEY YOU SPEND
2) do the root canal. MY OPINION: IS GOOD BUT PLEASE DON'T GET IT, MY FRIEND DO IT AND HE STILL NEED TO GET PULLED THE TOOTH,AND IS IT EXPENSIVE.
3)don't do nothing OPINION fuck this decision is bad for you tooth and good for the money to save
4) MEN LOOK FOR ANOTHER DENTIST OR ANOTHER WAY TO DO IT, I KNOW THERE IS HOPE THAT YOU CAN GET THAT TOOTH PULL OFF WITHOUT HAVING PROBLEMS
Just get it pulled.
ReplyDeleteLike the other dude said no one knows what is better for you, but...
ReplyDeleteI just bring my testimony that getting your tooth pulled isn't going to result in any problems.
I have holes in 4 of my teeth hurts like hell when food gets stuck but i would wait
ReplyDeleteGetting it pulled is your best option in this case. My mother had about 4 root canals over a 3 year period before finally getting her tooth pulled. I believe it was in the same place as yours, too.
ReplyDeleteOnly thing I can add experience to is that I've had the molar infront of my wisdom removed and its been fine ever since.
ReplyDeleteOf course that's not to say if you did the same procedure it would turn out the same, just another first hand experience to help you weigh it up.
It all depends on where the tooth is.. If its in the back.. I would just get to pulled.. But if its in the front*i.e someone can see* I would get the root canal.. So you don't look like some hick
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should get it pulled out, but also try to sort out braces? I know they can be a pain but you could also try getting retainers that you can wear at night so you teeth won't move.
ReplyDeleteDamn. If only you lived in britain.
ReplyDeleteI'de get it pulled. Why spending $1600 on a root canal, then having it pulled anyway? I'de spend the $150 now.
ReplyDeleteI had seven baby teeth pulled because they fused to my jaw early. They were pulled out so my perms could come out, and they came out fine. I don't think one tooth in the back will cause much problems. The seven teeth that were pulled were my canines and my bottom incisors. I wasn't eating right for a few weeks.
So one tooth should be no problem. But hey, it's your choice.
Actually, I had to get rid of 10 teeth. I managed to pull out 3 of my pre-molars somehow, so they only had to pull 7 of the ten.
ReplyDeleteBut my permanents all came in fine afterwards.
Either pull it or find another dentist. Shop around, I live in the middle of nowhere with a town of 15,000 people and I still have like 10 dentists here. Not every place costs the same. I can understand if you've gone to them forever, but sometimes the cost outweighs loyalty.
ReplyDeleteWell I had a Root Canal twice and I was like 8 or 7 but anyways I didnt have any problems with it but if its for a back tooth i guess its like a 50/50 chance right now but i feel like ull have more problems if u pull it out so for me i think you should just do the one that doesnt give alot of problems
ReplyDeleteI haven't had a root canal, but I am currently living with both my lower second premolars removed,(They didn't grow in properly due to genetics.) and I've been fine for now. The dentists have said that I'd need to get either implants or a bridge to keep my teeth from slowly falling in on each other to fill the gap. I don't personally know how expensive that implant'd be.
ReplyDeleteI think it depends on the condition of your tooth, if a root canal would actually be still useful. If too much of it is already chipped off, you might be better off just getting it pulled if you're concerned about it failing, and maybe looking into perhaps a prosthetic to fill the gap.
ReplyDeleteYou also, aside from the possible procedures, might want to research on the doctor working on your tooth. Check on his credentials and his past work. I'm not sure where to readily find this information, but it helps to know before you decide to pour money on this guy. And perhaps try to find any other accessible dentist that could probably offer a better price for it.
pull your tooth out .
ReplyDeleteHow much would it cost if you had your tooth pulled out and had flase tooth put in?
ReplyDeleteedit: i mean false
ReplyDeleteAustin, my father's an Orthodontist. I can say without any bias that you missing a 2nd molar will not affect you in any negative way. At all.
ReplyDeleteAnd mind you, there is no reason why you can't get a replacement tooth in the future also.
My 2 cents: lose the tooth, fuck the root canal. You'll get through this, sir.
i agree with mark, get it pulled, scrape up a little more money and get a fake tooth
ReplyDeleteWell, personally I vote root canal. But there's so many things to consider before making a decision.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is possible the root canal might lead to the tooth being pulled, BUT if you just get it pulled to begin with, you're going to need to get a bridge or an implant. Drifting is not a possibility. It will happen. It's just a matter of how long it will take for the other teeth to shift.
You can always check other offices too, not all offices charge the same fees. I also suggest doing as much research as possible on the doc who's going to do whatever procedure you decide to go with. Especially if you do decide on a root canal.
Good luck Austin!

ReplyDeleteIn your situation, I'd just have the tooth pulled.
ReplyDeleteHa! There's a bunch of dental ads now XD!
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I would've gotten earlier, and if that failed, then I would apply for a consultant job, like an out of town consultant thing some companies do that type thing. If that don't work, sell antiques you might have, sell schtuff on ebay (not your computer, you're too good for that), if that fails i would suggest youtube partnership........just saying. if all else fails, pull the tooth and hope you get a retainer. There's also stocks, but thats las vegas in a friggin whole state of craziness!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, think about a lot of other things BEFORE you make bad, Bad, BAD decisions.....Austin, I care about you, DON'T BE STUPID, STUPID!
step 1. get tooth pulled have lots of money
ReplyDeletestep 2. money = women
step 3. women = sex
step 4. sex = aids
step 5. aids = death
step 6. profit?
jk i dunno man its a tough decesion i think i spelled that wrong.
^ Nice contribution, useless.
ReplyDeleteYes, pull it. Fake teeth sound wicked.
ReplyDeleteAnd if a girl asks how you lost that tooth, say its because you got into a fight with Chuck Norris.
ReplyDeleteLogically the best choice would be to go for the least financially damaging option. $150 for the tooth getting pulled and maybe having future work or $1600 for a root canal and the risk of adding in the $150 for the pull and possible future work. However the ultimate decision is up to you, so I'm just giving advice.
ReplyDeleteman this poll is pretty close. though as far as I kow getting it pulled will be good for you and probably cheaper too. I had to get some teeth pulled once (I had extras growing in my mouth) but it didn't really change how I talked, though this may not be the best example but all in all I wish you the best of luck with it
ReplyDeletelike old McDonald said, i would suggest getting the tooth pulled now instead of having a root canal done, plus there are chances of something going wrong with the tooth if you have the root canal done and you end up getting it pulled anyway in the future?
ReplyDeletewhen i had the same options to choose a few months back i had my tooth pulled and i don't have any problems with it so far.
so my advice would be to get it pulled.
You could just pull it out yourself...
ReplyDeletetie a bit of string round a door handle and your tooth etc.
Anybody else notice that the poll hasn't seemed to gone more than 4 votes one way or the other? O.o
ReplyDeleteIf it would be cheaper to pull and replace the tooth you should definitely do that. Just don't leave a gap. It will cause problems.
ReplyDeleteI have the EXACT same thing, but wow, dentistry doesn't cost anywhere near as much here in England. I chose the root canal right there on the spot. It doesn't hurt in the slightest. It felt weird at first but he just injected me with more anaesthetic and I couldn't feel a thing. Im going back on Tuesday to have a Crown put in and 9 fillings 0.0 i have no idea why my teeth has gotten so bad, last time i went for a check-up, they were fine (other than a little problem with my gums). Altogether, for the root canal, 9 fillings, the X-Rays, the crown and the teeth cleaning (not brushing lol), it's costing my £200. Hopefully though, the NHS will be giving me full financial-support for dentistry and I can claim it all back since i'm a student :)
