wearing chem lights is actually most safe light source in the wild. It only shows up at short range and if your that close there is no helping you against bandit anyway.
Over all though I usually only explore far inland towns with light and use flares to light up most of the town.
I've taken to joining inverted time servers. problem is finding them. Ohio 1 used to have inverted time but apparently not anymore.
